DIY PALETTE
SCANDINAVIAN DESK

Project thumbnail

This project was my first DIY furniture project. It is a scandinavian desk made of palette wood planks. The palettes used were Europe Palettes that you can find at any warehouse, shop etc in Europe. The realization was pretty basic but I am very happy with the results.

To do it you would need:

  • 2 Europe palettes
  • Good Sander (with x40, x80 and x120 sands)
  • Wood fixation technique (I used screws but glue should be good too)
  • Set of 22" scandinavian table legs (French people can search "Pieds en épingle" on Amazon) - Like those
  • Wood varnish (choose your prefered varnish color)

The dimensions of the wood part of the desk is 120 x 58 x 18 cm. The realization is straight forward

  1. Disassemble the palettes and sand the planks (with x40 then x80 sands). All the planks have a 2cm thickness. Each palette should give you:
    • 4 planks of 120x10 cm
    • 4 planks of 120x14 cm
    • 3 planks of 80x14 cm
  2. Cut the planks required for the assembling of the desk. You'll need:
    • 6 planks of 120x10 cm
    • 4 planks of 120x14 cm
    • 4 planks of 58x14 cm
    • 2 planks of 20x14 cm
    • 1 plank of 72x14 cm
    Planks list
  3. Varnish and sand with x120 sands the planks (applying varnish is harder once the desk is assembled)
  4. Assemble the desk desk assembled
  5. I varnished again the outside of the desk for extra protection
  6. Fix the legs

3D Blueprint

Feel free to download the 3D files that I made as blueprint for this project.

It shows how the different planks are composing the final desk, just like in the following 3d views:
